FASHION FOCUS: Zoe Saldana

She’s played everything from a blue-tinged alien in Avatar to an uptight ballerina in Center Stage, so it should really come as no surprise that Zoe Saldana’s style is equally as adventurous and varied as her career. While other celebrities tend to stick to one signature look, Zoe manages to rock graphic prints, quirky ball gowns and minimalist dresses with equal panache. She’s a prime example of someone who clearly loves pushing the boundaries of her fashion comfort zone time and time again.

While her Calvin Klein underwear ads were just about the hottest thing we’ve ever seen, where Zoe really shines is the red carpet. While most actresses play it safe, especially when it comes to events such as the Oscars or Golden Globes, Zoe clearly loves a fashion moment. We suspect most actresses would’ve run scared from the Givenchy ombre pom pom dress she rocked at the 2010 Academy Awards but Zoe totally made it her own. It made a very refreshing change after years of celebs looking styled to within an inch of their lives. When it comes to fearless fashionistas, Zoe’s certainly leader of the pack.

‣ A couple of months ago we told you about Christian Louboutin’s plans to design a real-life version of Cinderella’s glass slipper. After many sketches, Louboutin finally settled on a fairytale-like pair of heels covered in crystals and butterfly embellishments. Naturally they have the signature red soles too.

‣ Kristen Stewart hasn’t cracked a smile in about five years but you can’t deny that she’s absolutely stunning. It seems Balenciaga’s creative director, Nicholas Ghesquière noticed too, as Kristen is now the face of Balenciaga’s new perfume Florabotanica. The campaign shot by Steven Meisel features Kristen looking her usual moody self with her hands stuffed into the pockets of a very beautiful structured Balenciaga dress. Ghesquière has said he’s had his eye on the actress since she appeared in 2002’s Panic Room and that he remembers thinking at the time, “She’s so Balenciaga.” And what does the face think of the scent? Stewart says, “It’s very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it – considering that I’ve never worn a scent – it kind of puts you on this level of, like, ‘Whoa, check me out.'” Florabotanica is released in September.

‣ What would a Trending post be without some Karl Lagerfeld news? Most cats get a belly rub and some toys if they’re lucky. If you’re Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette, you get a Chanel bag named after you. Yep, the latest Chanel couture collection features a “Choupette” bag named after the famous feline. You may be thinking ‘wow what an honour for a cat’ but considering Choupette has two maids looking after her – one for day, one for night – being the namesake of a Chanel bag is really a bit whatevs for her. Check out Choupette’s hilarious (unofficial) Twitter account for more of this spoilt kitty’s musings on life.

‣ In a pairing that’s made the little girls in us squeal with glee, Christian Louboutin has teamed up with Disney to design a special “Cinderella” slipper to coincide with the global release of Cinderella The Diamond Edition on Blu-ray this October. Louboutin has said of the collaboration: “Isn’t it everyone’s dream, to once in your life [be] part of a fairy tale? Walt Disney Studios gave me a wonderful opportunity to live this magical moment. I have been so lucky to have crossed paths with Cinderella, an icon who is so emblematic to the shoe world as well as the dream world.” If Cinderella’s glass slippers had been red-soled Louboutins, we’re betting she wouldn’t have lost them quite so easily…
